Akilpo – Ishinca

Itinerary

Day One: Laguna de Akilpo 4,200 Meters.

We leave from Huaraz on the bus in the direction of Honkopampa, at 3,450 meters, and we will take a break to visit the ruins. After, we begin the walk, starting at the Akilpo Ravine, ascending through a forest full of quenuales, quisuar, and other plants. On the way we will admire the 7 waterfalls of differing dimensions. This walk will take us about 7 hours until we arrive at Lake Akilpo. At its shores we will make our campsite from which we will be able to see the peak of Mount Akilpo, at 5,751 meters.

Day Two: Ishinca-4,350 Meters.

We leave very early with an ascent that will take us about 6 hours to arrive at the Urus Pass, at 5,000 meters. From this point we will have a phenomenal viewpoint from which to appreciate various mountains such as Mount Vallunaraju, at 5,686 meters, Mount Ocshapalca, at 5,888 meters, Mount Ranrapalca, Mount Ishinca, at 5,495 meters, etc. After taking some photos we begin our descent for about 2 hours until we arrive at the campsite of Ishinca, next to the shelter.

Day Three: Huraz-3,100 Meters.

We begin our walk in a descent toward the Ishinca Ravine which will take us about three hours. On the way we observe diverse plants. Continuing we arrive at Collon where our bus awaits us to take us back to the city of Huaraz.
