The multi pitch rock climbing area is a steep east face of “Cordillera Negra’s” mount located just over Antacocha lake, on about 3800 meters above the sea level. The rock is a great quality limestone. It’s exposure gives us some rest from the strong sun in the afternoons and an spectacular view for the “Cordillera Blanca”. It has several bolted multi pitch routs up to 180 meters high with grades between 6a and 8a. The top of the cliff reaches 4200 meters above sea level. On the very same rock you will also find some single pitch sport routs. A lot of trad and boulder options are near by as well. The rock quality is good although there are several run outs on some higher parts on some of the routs.
The area offers a lot of free space for the tents close to the lake, places to make fire and a tap with clean water about 100 meters away.
We can organize one day tour to Antacocha but we believe that it is worth to spend minimum 2 days there. We can also help to arrange you the transport directly from Huaraz. In case you want to get there totally on your own you can take a bus to Catac and get of in Recuay, then take a taxi for 40 soles there or walk about 2 hours from the last bridge before the town.
