Quilcayhuanca – Cojup

Itinerary

Day One Qillcayhuanca Pampa- 4,250 Meters.

We leave from Huaraz at about 7 AM. We take the private bus which takes us to Pitec, which will take about 50 minutes. On the way we pass by the Village of Unchus and Llupa. We observe an infinitude of plants and flowers on the way. Once arrived at Pitec, we encounter a person who carries our things. To enter into the Parque Nacional Huascaran one must pay a fee of 65 nuevo soles. Next we begin to walk on a flat easy path into an impressive valley with a fantastic view. This section takes us about 5-6 hours. On the right side we can see the peak of Mount Quimarumi, at 5,455 meters. About an hour into the walk, there is a side path to the right that leads to the Valley of Cayesh, but we will take the left, which leads us toward the campsite at which we will camp, 30 minutes from Lake Tullpacocha. From this point we observe the mountains of Copiraju, 5,518 meters, and the peak of Tullparaju.

Day Two Cojup Pampa-4,240msnm

On this day we usually leave very early, around 7 AM. We begin the walk uphill which will take us about 6 hours. Halfway up the ascent we oberve various mountains such as Chinchey, 6,309 meters, Pucaranra, 6,156 meters. At the bottom of these mountains we encounter a beautiful lake called Cuchillacocha. Continuing the walk we arrive at the pass called Jatunmontepuncu, 5,280 meters. From this place we can see both valleys, Quillcayhuanca and Cojup, and more peaks such as Ranrapalca, 6,126 meters, Ishinca, 5,530 meters, and Palcaraju, 6,274 meters. At the bottom of the latter we can see Lake Palcacocha. It is a beautiful viewpoint. Next, after having taken some photos, we begin to descend with much caution because there are loose rocks. We arrive at the campsite.

Day Three, Portada de Cojup-4,130meters-Huaraz-3100meters

After breakfast we begin to walk on a flat path and on the way we observe many flowers and plants that beautify the landscape. On this day we walk for about three hours up to the gate of Cojup. In this place there are guards who will check our tickets. Here as well the car awaits us which will take us back to Huaraz. This ride takes 50 minutes, and ends by taking the clients to their respective hostels.
