Huilcahuain is an archeological site defined by the ruins of an architectonic construction of Ancient Peru, from the pre-Incan period, where can be found a three-story building called the Temple of Huilcahuain. It is a very beautiful walk. There are two options. At the beginning of this tour we can go in a colectivo or walk. Once at the ruins we will observe, that the temple has similarities with the Chavin Castle, although in smaller dimensions; at its base it measures approximately 10.7 by 15.6 meters.
The masonry of its walls is of rustic stones with certain pachillas connected with clay mortar. It has three stories or platforms connected by interior stairs and ramps. Each floor has its respective entrance. Moreover it has a ventilation system of underground passages and wells. After we will descend for about 1 hour to the Thermal Baths of Monterrey. Finally we return to Huaraz.
Time of the journey: Huaraz – Wilkawain: 2 hours and in car it is about 30 minutes and Wilkawain to Monterrey: is about 1 hour.
