About the Trip
The Pastoruri Glacier trip is a tour of one day in which we visit and observe the nearby Pastoruri Glacier, located 5,240 meters above sea level. It is found in the extreme south of the Parque Nacional Huascaran. Before going on this tour it is necessary to do an acclimation walk in order to avoid any kind of problem. After this, the ascent to the top is considered easy. From there we admire a panoramic vista that our landscape offers.
The tour begins at 8 AM. We leave from Huaraz toward the southern highway. It takes about three hours in bus, passing by Recuay, Catac, Pachacoto. Then we visit the bubbling mineral waters. After that we find as well the spring, which is a well of 10 meters in diameter, in whose interior are located the rocks that reflect the colors of the water. After that we observe the Puyas de Raimondi, plants that only exist in the South American Andes, which can reach heights of up to 12-15 meters, flowering in its natural habitat for over 100 years. This route is impressive, and following the walk of this route is about 2 kilometers until we arrive at the Patorruri Glaciar. It is about a 40 minute walk at a normal rhythm. Once arrived on the glacier, we observe a spectacular view (a lake beside the snow). To conclude we descend from there to the bus pick-up point to return to Huaraz, which takes about 3 hours.
