The Huayhuash mountain range is one of the most beautiful and popular treks in the Andes, that marked a milestone in history rated the second place in the world for its majestic mountain’s views and the lakes that show a beauty with its diverse colorful and impressive views, that you can appreciate in different dimensions.

Itinerary

Fist Day Matacancha- 4180masl.

Usually we leave at 9am from Huaraz, it is like 5-6 hours the whole journey, in this tour we make several stops where the guide will explain the route to get to the first camp, there we observe the Rondoy-5879masl, Ninashanca-5607masl, etc. The first day we do not do any walk, we just camp and we prepare physically for the following days. The base camp is located at 4180masl.

Second day Mitucocha-4200masl

After breakfast we start walking uphill which takes 3 hours to the Cacanan Punta pass which is at 4700masl, there is an spectacular view on the left side this Puca Cocha the color that it takes is on the ground a particular reddish around a greenery impressive, then we descend like 2 hours to the lake of Mitucocha, where we do the camping anyway we appreciate a spectacular view of the mountains plus the lake of our beautiful nature.

Third day Carhuacocha – 4120 masl

We usually leave at eight o’clock in the morning, we walk up around 3 hours and a half approximately until we arrived at ‘El Paso’ which is located at 4650masl (Carhuac). On this point we observe the highest mountains in the Huayhaush mountain range Yerupaja, Siula , Shirishanca, etc and many other. After we appreciate that beautiful view we go down around an hour and a half to Carhuacoha.

Fourth Day Huayhuash – 4250masl

On this day we have two options (one for donkeys and the other one for people), and the second one is the best because of the view. We start the trek around two and a half hours, on our way we observe three lakes with a different colors (Jangracocha, Sillacocha and Siulacocha) and many mountains such as Siula, Yerupaja, Jjirishanca, etc. After that we start walking up 3 hours approximately until the pass (‘El Paso’) that is located at 4800masl. Then we walk down around two hours, there we observe the Carnicero’s lake and other mountains as Trapecio, Pusk Canturpa and we continue walking down until we arrived at Huayhuash

Fifth Day Viconga – 4280masl

We start walking up at eight o’clock in the morning until we arrived at the pass, that takes us approximately 3 hours. Portachuelo is located at 4750masl, from this point we can see an amazing valley with mountains located on both sides. On the left we can see the Raura’s mountain range and on the right the Huayhuash’s mountain range, here we can see two snowy mountains (Trapecio and Pusk Canturpa). After that we walk down around 2 hours, on our way we find the Viconga’s lake and then we arrive at the camp which is located next to hot springs

Sixth Day Leon Dormido – 4350masl

We usually star walking around 8 o’clock in the morning, we walk up around 4 hours until we arrive at the pass which is located at 5000 masl (Cuyoc). On this point we will see lots of mountains as the Sarapo, the Trapeze, the Puchcanturpa, the Jurau, etc. After we take photos we keep walking down slowly (because the path is very steep with full of rocks), it take us around 2 hours until we arrive to the camp.

Seventh Day Calinca – 4320masl

As every day we start walking up approximately at 8 o’clock in the morning, it is around 4 hours because is a very steep path until we arrive at the Mirador that is located at 5180msnm (San Antonio) – Santa Rosa. On this point we can see the mountains more closely (Yerupaja, Rasac, Sacra, Huacrish and Sarapo) and the two amazing lakes which are located under those mountains. Here, we take photos and after that we start walking down slowly and carefully, on our way we can see a variety of plants and flowers that embellish the nature.

Eighth Day Huatiac – 4420 masl

This day is a bit easy because we walk on a flat path in a boxed valley, where we can see a varieties of plants and flowers, this walk take us about 3 hours until we arrive at Huayllapa, in this place we stop around 40 minutes to buy some food and then we start walking up around 3 hours ( we do it in a moderate rhythm until we arrive at camp)

Ninth Day Gashpapampa – 4380masl

We start ascending in 3 hours, on our way we observe the Diablo Mudo mountain whose height is 5223masl, which is accessible for a climbing adventure. We keep walking until we arrive at Punta de Tapush, that is located at 4800masl, on this point we observe the Cordillera Blanca where; as usual; we take lots of photos. After that we keep walking down and we find two small lakes: Nawin Cocha (the name is because they look together like eyes in summer, but in winter they come together in one). Finally we walk down until the camp.

Tenth Day Jahuacocha – 4120masl

As usual, we start to walk uphill around 2-3 hours at a moderate pace until we see the Yaucha-4800masl ascent, after that we walk a bit down in a flat road around the mountain to later arrive to the Gazer (Condor Huaganan), from this point we observe the Yerupaja Grande-6634masl, Yerupaja Chico-6121masl, Jirishanca-6094masl, Rasac 6017masl, and Tsacra-5548masl; below these mountains there are several lakes such as the Soltera Cocha, the Jahuacocha’s lake, the Rasac’s lake with a splendid color. Once our clients take photos in different dimensions we go down in a very steep way, for this our walk take us around 3 hours and we usually camp next to the lake with and amazing view.

Eleventh Day Sambunia-Gazer-4680masl

We leave at 9 in the morning and the ascending stretch takes us about 3 hours, from this point we observe very close some snowy mountains, as Rondoy-5879masl, small-Jirishanca -5445masl, Huacrish-5622masl and the same mountains of the previous day, we go down to the Solteracocha’s lake where we can appreciate its impressive view. Finally when we return to the camp, we observe many flowers and plants as the Quenual, Quisuar, etc. This is a relaxing day.

Twelfth Day Huaraz – 3100masl

We usually leave from Jaguacocha to LLamac at 7am, It is an easy day because we walk on a flat road around 3 hours, on our way we observe lots of plants and far away we can see the mountains of the Cordillera Blanca. Half of the way we start to descending, that it will take us around 2 hours until we arrive to Llamac Village where our transport waits for us to take us to Huaraz again (it takes 5 hours by car). Once we are in Huaraz, we take our clients to their lodgings, and our service is finished.

Fist Day Matacancha- 4180masl.
